What is OCD?

Let’s talk about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and what it means?

I can speak about OCD as I have it and it’s an insidious illness. I remember it started when I was a little girl by touching things a certain amount of times, until “that just right,” feeling set in. It took over my life when my dad passed away and I was in desperate need of help. I am an OCD Perfectionist, and a Checker. I was so ridden with grief that it was time for OCD to invade. I was blessed to get treatment, here in Boston, at Mclean’s Hospital, at the OCDI residential treament for 5 1/2 weeks. The treatment used for OCD is Exposure Response Prevention. I will say it was one of the hardest but rewarding experiences that I was blessed with.

If you have OCD, there is treatment for it and please reach out to the International the International OCD Foundation.

I will end with this. OCD comes in so many different forms and it is treatable. Please don’t suffer with this insidious illness and reach out for the help. I will attach a link to IOCDF that explains OCD in further detail. You are not alone in this and join communities on Facebook, YouTube, etc. that understand OCD.
